Janssen and PSC Announce Plans to Settle Federal Propulsid Cases

NEW ORLEANS - The Plaintiffs Steering Committee (PSC) and Propuslid maker Janssen Pharmaceutica announced Feb. 4 that they have tentatively reached an agreement to settle nearly 4,000 federal cases involving injuries caused by the heartburn medication. The manufacturer agreed to pay between $69.5 million and $90 million in damages. In re: Propulsid Products Liability Litigation, MDL 1355 (E.D. La.).
According to a consent order filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, of the 4,000 MDL cases currently pending against the manufacturer, approximately 300 involve patients who died after using the heartburn medication. The proposed agreement …
