Defendant Wins First PPA Trial in New Jersey, Sources Say

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - A New Jersey jury has returned a defense verdict in what is believed to be the first trial involving injuries allegedly caused by ingestion of products containing PPA. Rose Kronfeld v. Novartis Consumer Health, No. L-003034-02 (N.J. Super. Ct., Middlesex Cty.).
According to sources, the unanimous Middlesex County Superior Court jury returned the verdict Jan. 16, relieving defendant Novartis of liability related to plaintiff Rose Kronfeld's hemorrhagic stroke.
Kronfeld sued Novartis claiming that her ingestion of the PPA-containing Tavist-D cold medication caused her to suffer a stroke in 1998. Tavist-D is manufactured by Novartis subsidiary Sandoz …
