INDIANAPOLIS - A Michigan police sergeant's inability to metabolize the antidepressant Prozac allegedly caused him to take his own life, his widow claims in a recently filed lawsuit. Michele Lynn Alli, et al., v. Eli Lilly & Co., Inc., No. n/a (Ind. Cir. Ct., Marion Cty.).
The suit, filed Oct. 2 in Indiana's Marion County Circuit Court, states that Eli Lilly, the Indiana-based manufacturer of the drug, failed to warn consumers that a small percentage of the population cannot metabolize the drug as well as other antidepressants known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).
