HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Pfizer, the manufacturer of Lipitor, and Winn Dixie Pharmacy are facing allegations asserted by an Alabama woman who claims she developed rhabdomyolysis as a result of using the nation's top-selling cholesterol-lowering drug. Margaret Lawson v. Pfizer, Inc., et al., No. CV-03-2772-S (N.D. Ala., Southern Div.).
The lawsuit, which was filed in Alabama's Circuit Court of Jefferson County, states that the drug company and the pharmacy failed to warn consumers of the drug's ability to cause rhabdomyolysis, a life-threatening condition that occurs when muscle cells break down and release toxins into the bloodstream.
