MINNEAPOLIS - Merck, the manufacturer of Vioxx, allegedly concealed information and failed to warn consumers and physicians about the drug's ability to cause adverse thrombotic events, according to a suit filed by woman who suffered a number of cardiovascular injuries after using the arthritis medication. Carolyn Y. Glover v. Merck & Co., Inc., No. 03-CV-5166 (D.Minn.).
The company failed to warn the consuming public of the drug's potentially life-threatening side effects although a number of published studies found that Vioxx users were at an increased risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, pulmonary embolism and sudden death, the Sept. 3 complaint states.
