LOS ANGELES - A federal judge denied a second motion to certify a statewide class of California residents who allegedly suffered withdrawal symptoms as a result of tapering off or attempting to stop using the antidepressant Paxil after finding that the proposed subclasses did not meet the requirements established under Fed. R. Civ. P. 23. In re: Paxil Litigation, No. 01-07937 (C.D. Calif.).

U.S. District Judge Marianna Pfaelzer's Aug. 29 order denied the plaintiffs' amended motion for class certification and granted Paxil-maker GlaxoSmithKline's (GSK) motion to dismiss non-California plaintiffs from the suit.
