Glaxo Failed to Warn of Avandia's Ability to Cause Liver and Heart Damage, Suit Alleges

LOS ANGELES -Twenty-four California residents who allegedly sustained injuries as a result of using the diabetes drug Avandia have filed suit against the manufacturer of the drug as well as the doctors who prescribed the drug. Frank Dietz, et al., v. GlaxoSmithKline, et al., No. BC297630 (Calif. Super. Ct., Los Angeles Cty.).

According to the June 18 joinder suit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, both GlaxoSmithKline and the physicians failed to adequately warn consumers that the drug could potentially cause heart injury, excessive fluid retention, fluid-overload disease, liver damage, liver failure and severe injury to the heart leading …
