Chattem Settles Dexatrim-Related Stroke Case for $3.5 Million

CHATANOOGA, Tenn. - Chattem, Inc., the manufacturer of Dexatrim, announced that it will pay $3.5 million to settle a suit filed by a Texas woman who allegedly suffered a hemorrhagic stroke after taking the PPA-containing drug. Jennifer Villarreal, et al., v. Chattem, Inc., et al., No. N/A (Texas Dist. Ct., Brazoria Cty.).
The case was scheduled to go to trial May 19 in the District Court of Brazoria County, Texas.
