Antipsychotic Can Allegedly Cause Patients to Develop Diabetes





Eli Lilly & Co., the manufacturer of Zyprexa, is once again facing accusations regarding side effects associated with one of its best-selling medications.

Zyprexa (olanzapine), an 'atypical antipsychotic,' has been implicated in a growing number of product liability suits filed by patients who allegedly developed hyperglycemia, diabetes or ketoacidosis after using the drug.

The actions claim that Lilly employed aggressive marketing tactics while promoting the drug that included encouraging physicians to prescribe Zyprexa for off-label uses such as the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder.
