NEW ORLEANS — A Louisiana federal judge has retained jurisdiction over a lawsuit targeting Stryker Corp.’s robot-assisted knee replacement system, ruling that a non-diverse healthcare provider was improperly joined because the plaintiff failed to first bring his claims before a medical review panel.

On Aug. 12, Magistrate Judge Carol B. Whitehurst of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana explained that the claims against the hospital arise under the Louisiana Medical Malpractice Act and must therefore be presented to the panel.
