ST. LOUIS — A lawsuit based upon Smith & Nephew Inc.’s allegedly defective orthopedic nail device does not belong in Missouri court, a federal judge has ruled, explaining that the claims do not have sufficient ties to the state.

In a May 8 order, Judge Ronnie L. White of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri said the complaint lacks specific facts indicating that the cause of action arises out of and relates to S&N’s activities in Missouri, and none of the facts alleged link S&N’s conduct in Missouri to the plaintiff’s injury.
