Texas Federal Judge Stays Smith & Nephew Hip Case Pending Possible Transfer to MDL

BEAUMONT, Texas — A Texas federal judge has stayed a case targeting a Smith & Nephew Inc. metal-on-metal hip implant system pending its possible transfer to the BHR hip multidistrict litigation and denied the plaintiff’s motion to remand without prejudice.
In a Nov. 28 order, Judge Marcia A. Crone of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas said the action “instant case likely raises issues common to those raised in other transferred cases and judicial economy would best be served by granting the stay.”
