4th Cir. Upholds Award of Summary Judgment to Pfizer in Lipitor Diabetes MDL

RICHMOND, Va. — A federal appeals court has upheld an award of summary judgment to Pfizer Inc. which disposed of thousands of claims that Lipitor causes diabetes, ruling that the multidistrict litigation court properly excluded the opinions of the plaintiffs’ experts as unreliable.
In the June 12 opinion, the 4th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals further affirmed that without the expert testimony, plaintiffs cannot prove that Lipitor caused their diabetes.
