Judge Overseeing BHR Hip MDL Docket Establishes Separate Track for THA Cases

BALTIMORE — The judge overseeing the Smith & Nephew Birmingham Hip (BHR) Resurfacing Femoral Head and Acetabular Cup multidistrict litigation docket has established a separate track for total hip replacement construct (THA) cases.

According to the May 3 order issued by Judge Catherine C. Blake of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, there are currently 50 active THA cases in the MDL, and 259 active BHR cases.

The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, in its Jan. 31 transfer order, clarified that the Smith & Nephew Hip Resurfacing Hip Implant MDL is not limited to cases alleging injury …
