Plaintiffs Seek Centralization of N.J. Ethicon Multi-Layered Hernia Mesh Products

TRENTON, N.J. — Plaintiffs in New Jersey actions involving Ethicon Inc.’s multi-layered hernia mesh products are seeking multi-county litigation designation in the Bergen County Superior Court, arguing that centralization will conserve resources.

In a March 14 letter, the 62 plaintiffs, all of whom allege that the Ethicon polypropylene mesh devices are defective, further argue that coordination of the actions before Judge Rachelle Harz will reduce cost, eliminate delay, and reduce the likelihood of inconsistent results.

Plaintiffs maintain there are dozens, if not hundreds of additional cases involving Ethicon’s multi-layered hernia mesh that will be filed in the near future. …
