Plavix Makers Awarded Summary Judgment in Lawsuit Alleging Gastrointestinal Bleeding

CAMDEN, N.J. — A New Jersey federal judge has awarded drug makers summary judgment in a lawsuit alleging that Plavix caused a woman’s gastrointestinal bleeding, ruling that the learned intermediary doctrine bars the failure-to-warn and design defect claims.

In an Oct. 26 order, Judge Freda Wolfson of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey found the plaintiff failed to show that a different prescription decision would have been made if her doctor were presented with additional information about Plavix’s bleeding risk.
