Ga. Federal Judge to Ask JPML to Stop Transferring New Cases to Conserve Hip MDL

ATLANTA — The Georgia federal judge overseeing the Wright Medical Conserve Hip docket said he will ask the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to stop transferring new cases to the MDL docket on the basis that the “purposes of the MDL has been fulfilled.”

In an Oct. 18 order, Judge William S. Duffey Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia granted the parties’ joint motion to close the MDL docket to new claims and ordered that the direct filing of new cases in the MDL docket is no longer permitted.
