ARTICLE: Fatal Overdosage of Sildenafil Citrate (Viagra): First Report and Review of the Literature

SUMMARY: The first report of a fatality caused by sildenafil overdosage. The deceased was a 56-year-old man with a history of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, chronic alcoholism and erectile dysfunction. The autopsy found that postmortem blood levels were four times greater than the highest recommended therapeutic levels of the drug. The autopsy also revealed the diffuse coronary atherosclerosis and extensive fibrosis of the myocardium, but did not find any signs of acute ischemic disease.
