RIDGELAND, S.C. - A Jan. 28 lawsuit alleges that the S.C. doctors and pharmacists that prescribed OxyContin, along with the companies that manufacture and distribute the drug, caused the plaintiffs to suffer death, addiction and withdrawal symptoms. Rachel Barbusci, et al. v. Purdue Pharma, L.P., et al., No. 02-CP-27-050 (S.C. C. P., 14th Jud. Cir., Jasper Cty.).
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs' injuries were the result of the defendants' refusal to formulate or manufacture OxyContin without the potential for addiction and abuse, coupled with their failure to accurately inform the plaintiffs about the product's appropriate uses and risks.
