Plaintiffs Make 2nd Attempt to Consolidate Federal Heartburn Drug Injury Lawsuits

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Plaintiffs alleging injuries caused by several popular heartburn drugs have renewed their effort to transfer all similar cases to a single federal judge, arguing that the number of claims has ballooned since a federal judicial panel refused to create a centralized docket for the litigation earlier this year.
In a motion filed June 1, counsel representing plaintiffs in some of the nearly 200 proton pump inhibitor (PPI) lawsuits pending nationwide asked the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to establish a multidistrict litigation docket in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
