Judicial Panel OKs Mirena Pseudotumor Cerebri MDL on Second Attempt

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In their second attempt in two years, plaintiffs have persuaded the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to create a centralized MDL docket for claims alleging intracranial hypertension caused by Bayer’s Mirena IUD contraceptive system.
In a relatively lengthy transfer order issued April 6, the JPML agreed with plaintiffs that the landscape for claims arising from the Mirena-related injury, also referred to as pseudotumor cerebri, has expanded dramatically since the panel denied a similar motion in July 2014.
