JPML Assigns New Judge to DePuy ASR Hip Implant MDL Proceedings

CLEVELAND –– The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation has assigned a new judge to the ongoing DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. ASR Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation docket in the wake of the presiding judge’s death, according to a recent order.

The JPML’s Sept. 2 order assigned Hon. Jeffrey J. Helmick to the coordinated pretrial proceedings.

Judge David A. Katz of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio –– who had presided over the docket since its inception in Dec. 2010 –– passed away in July at the age of 82, according to publishing reports.
