NEWARK, N.J. — A New Jersey couple have accused AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals of failing to warn doctors and patients that its acid reflux drug Nexium can cause chronic kidney disease (CKD) and other serious injuries.

In an Aug. 18 complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, the couple alleges that Nexium is defective and unreasonably dangerous because it was inadequately tested, contains hazardous design defects, and is accompanied by insufficient warnings as to CKD and other permanent injuries.
