20 Plaintiffs Accuse Bayer of Failing to Warn of Essure's Health Risks

SAN FRANCISCO — Twenty women have sued Bayer Corp., accusing it of failing to warn doctors and patients of the serious health risks posed by its Essure permanent birth control device and of failing to comply with several of the device’s Premarket Approval conditions.

The complaint, originally filed May 16 in the Alameda County Superior Court and removed to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on June 20, also says Bayer touted Essure as being safe and effective, when in fact it has a high failure rate.
