MOBILE, Ala. — A woman has sued the makers of Invokana in Alabama federal court, accusing them of failing to warn patients and doctors that the type 2 diabetes drug can cause diabetic ketoacidosis.

In a Dec. 15 complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama, the plaintiff says defendants aggressively marketed the drug while concealing its serious, and sometimes deadly, risks.

Luana Jean Collie filed the lawsuit against Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc., Johnson & Johnson and Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corp., alleging she was prescribed Invokana in November 2013 in an effort to reduce her blood …
