CHICAGO –– The Illinois federal court overseeing the national coordinated docket for NexGen Knee Implant claims has entered an amended judgment in favor of Zimmer Inc., effectively closing the bellwether case that ended in a defense verdict last month.

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois entered the judgment on Nov. 17; the jury reached its verdict four days prior after a three-and-a-half week trial.

Bellwether plaintiff Kathy Batty alleged in her complaint that she underwent total knee replacements on both knees in April 2009 in effort to help her degenerative joint disease. Her doctors implanted …
