Utah Court Requests Discovery on Relationship Between Parent Company, Subsidiary in Hip Case

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah –– A Utah federal court has asked parties in a hip implant case to conduct discovery regarding the relationship between the defendants, saying that a question exists regarding the identify, function and relationship between Wright Medical Group and Wright Medical Technology.
In the Sept. 21 order, the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah took a pending motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction under advisement.
Martin Smith filed the underlying complaint, contending that he underwent hip surgery in Jan. 2006, at which time he was implanted with the Wright Medical PROFEMUR hip device. …
