MicroPort Initiates Class 1 Recall of PROFEMUR Varus/Valgus Modular Neck

NEW ORLEANS — MicroPort Orthopedics Inc. has initiated a Class I Recall of its PROFEMUR Long Cobalt Chrome 8 Degree Varus/Valgus Neck, Part 1254, after receiving reports of an unexpected rate of fractures following surgery, according to a Food and Drug Administration alert.

The recall applies to all lots of the device, which were distributed from June 15, 2009, to July 31, 2015, the alert says; a total of 10,825 devices were recalled in the United States.
