Zimmer Denied Summary Judgment in VerSys Hip Implant Action

CHICAGO — An Illinois federal judge has denied Zimmer Inc.’s motion for summary judgment in a VerSys Hip System action, ruling that the plaintiff has, via expert testimony, created genuine disputes of material fact as to whether the device was defective and whether such defects proximately caused her injuries.
In an Aug. 31 order, Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois noted the plaintiff’s expert testified that the debris caused by the device’s micro-motion and fretting corrosion caused the plaintiff to contract metallosis.
