CHARLESTON, W. Va. — Ethicon Inc. and Johnson & Johnson have settled a federal bellwether Prolift transvaginal mesh case four days into trial, according to a court filing.

Trial began on March 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia before Judge Joseph R. Goodwin and settled on March 6, the daybook entry stated.

Arizona resident Dianne M. Bellew alleged she was injured after being surgically implanted with Ethicon Inc.’s Prolift Anterior Pelvic Floor Repair System, which had been prescribed to treat her pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence.
