Trial Commences in Missouri Ethicon Gynecare Prolift System Death Case

CAMDENTON, Mo. — Trial is underway in an Ethicon Gynecare Prolift System transvaginal mesh case, in which a Missouri man alleges that his wife developed severe infections caused by the device’s propylene mesh, ultimately leading to her death.

The trial against Johnson & Johnson and Ethicon Inc. began on Jan. 8 in the Camden County (Mo.) Circuit Court with Judge William Hass presiding.

According to the plaintiff’s second amended petition, Joan Budke visited Dr. Becky Simpson of the Lake Area Women’s Center in Osage Beach, Mo., complaining of mild incontinence. After performing an evaluation, Dr. Simpson recommended that Budke undergo …
