Containing Kava-Kava
Health authorities in England decided to ban the sale of dietary supplements containing kava-kava, following reports of serious cases of liver damage, some of which resulted in death. The Commission on Safety of Medicines reached its decision after 70 cases of liver damage were reported worldwide. Seven of these patients required a liver transplant, while four died as a result of their injuries.
In Britain, four cases of liver damage were reported, but none resulted in death.
