W. Va. Federal Jury Awards Obtryx Transvaginal Mesh Plaintiffs $18.5 Million

CHARLESTON, W. Va. — A federal jury has awarded four plaintiffs a total of $14.5 million in compensatory damages and $4 million in punitive damages in a Boston Scientific Obtryx Midurethral Sling transvaginal mesh device case, finding the company negligently designed the device and failed to adequately warn plaintiffs’ surgeons of the risks.
The verdicts were handed down on Nov. 20 by a jury sitting in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia after a three-week trial that began on Nov. 3. Judge Irene Berger presided over the trial.
