BOSTON — A Florida woman has filed a lawsuit in Massachusetts alleging that a defective APEX ARC hip system she had implanted in 2012 led to the development of pseudo tumor and elevated cobalt, titanium and chromium levels in her blood.

The lawsuit, which was filed June 24 in Suffolk County Superior Court, accuses Orthopaedic Synergy Inc. and subsidiary Omnilife Science Inc. of ignoring numerous design flaws in the APEX ARC that eventually led to premature failure of the artificial hip replacement.
