SAN FRANCISCO — A California federal judge has stayed a NuvaRing case pending possible transfer to the federal multidistrict litigation, citing conservation of judicial resources.

On Feb. 21, Judge Samuel Conti of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California also declined to decide the plaintiff’s request for remand, explaining that the MDL court is capable of hearing the motion.

Ten California citizens sued Merck & Company Inc., Schering Plough Corp., Organon USA Inc. and McKesson Corp. in California state court, alleging injuries caused by NuvaRing, a birth control device. Defendants removed the case to federal court on …
