Woman Says Defective St. Jude, Boston Scientific Pacemaker Components Caused Husband’s Death

TAMPA, Fla. — A Florida woman has sued St. Jude Medical Inc. (NYSE: STJ) and Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE: BSX), alleging her husband’s death was caused by defective pacemaker components, including a Riata lead.

The Oct. 29 complaint also names Cardiac Monitoring Center as a defendant, accusing it of breaching its duty to properly monitor the deceased’s implantable cardioverter defibrillator.

According to the suit, on Oct. 11, 2006, Richard Rowbotham underwent a biventricular CDI procedure secondary to severe cardiomyopathy. Rowbotham’s surgeon implanted a St. Jude Medical Inc. Pacesetter Riata lead model 1580. On April 1, 2011, Rowbotham underwent an ICD …
