SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah couple have filed a products liability suit against Smith & Nephew (NYSE: SNN), alleging that defects in a Birmingham Hip Resurfacing System implanted in the wife’s left hip in 2009 led to elevated levels of chromium and cobalt in her blood and eventual revision surgery.
The 12-count complaint was filed Aug. 5 by Sherrie and Steve Robinson in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah.
The Robinsons say that Sherrie underwent left hip replacement surgery on May 20, 2009, receiving Birmingham Hip Resurfacing System components made by Smith & Nephew, including a …
