Summary: More individuals are using "performance enhancing" dietary supplements for enhanced athletic performance. Despite claims that the products will allegedly increase strength, promote weight loss or improve body definition, the products do not provide warnings concerning the possible adverse reactions. The article examines studies, data and case reports on five performance-enhancing supplements including: creatine, androstenedione, chromium, ephedra and amino and protein supplements. The review concluded that only creatine had a "marginally beneficial" effect only for the professional athlete. The other supplements all had potentially harmful …
