New Suit Accuses Byetta Makers of Concealing Thyroid Cancer Risk

SAN DIEGO — A woman has sued Amylin Pharmaceuticals LLC and Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE: LLY) in California federal court, accusing them of failing to warn doctors and the public that the type 2 diabetes drug Byetta can cause thyroid cancer.
The May 9 complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California accuses the drug makers of intentionally hiding the knowledge of increased risk of thyroid cancer in Byetta users to prevent any chances of the drug’s registration being delayed or rejected by the Food and Drug Administration.
