New Study Says Incretin Therapy Drugs May Cause Pancreatic Cell Growth

WILMINGTON, Del. — Type 2 diabetes patients treated with incretin therapy drugs such as Januvia and Byetta may be exposed to pancreatic cell growth and damage that could turn cancerous, according to the results of a newly published study.
The abstract, published March 22 in the American Diabetes Association’s “Diabetes” journal, says incretin therapy caused “a marked expansion of the exocrine and endocrine pancreatic compartments.”
