Plaintiffs File Motion to Consolidate Federal Mirena IUD Lawsuits in Ohio

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Plaintiffs have petitioned the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to create a centralized docket for all federal lawsuits alleging injury caused by the intrauterine contraceptive device Mirena.
The Jan. 16 petition urges the JPML to consolidate eight pending federal lawsuits, as well as any future Mirena claims, before a single U.S. District Judge in the Northern District of Ohio. The filing comes just one week after the New Jersey Supreme Court denied a motion by Mirena manufacturer Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Inc. to consolidate nearly a dozen lawsuits filed recently in New Jersey state court.
