S.C. Woman Says Warnings About Mirena IUD Migration Risk Never Reached Doctors

FLORENCE, S.C. — A South Carolina woman who blames a Mirena IUD for severe internal injuries that forced her into surgically-induced menopause at age 26 has opposed a motion by the device’s manufacturer to have the case dismissed.
In an opposition brief filed Jan. 2 in U.S. District Court, Kelli Baugh says Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals had an obligation to warn her of injuries that could occur when the device spontaneously migrates following insertion, despite the manufacturer’s claim that Baugh’s doctor was fully aware of such risks when she inserted Baugh’s device in 2005.
