Howmedica Sued over Failed Scorpio Knee Replacement Device

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A Wisconsin woman has sued medical device maker Howmedica Osteonics Corp. for injuries she suffered as a result of alleged defects in the company’s Scorpio Knee Replacement System.

Sharon Cook filed her complaint in Outagamie County Circuit Court after doctors discovered that devices the devices implanted in both knees had prematurely loosened. Cook alleges that the Scorpio device was defective when it was introduced into the market and that the manufacturer nevertheless promoted the device as safe.
