‘Salacious Political Drama’ Involving Lawyer, Judge’s Brother Leads to Recusal Bid in Fungal Meningitis Case

DETROIT — Plaintiffs in a meningitis-contaminated steroid case have filed a motion seeking the recusal of a federal judge whose brother spearheaded a criminal investigation into their attorney’s alleged involvement in the improper financing of political ads.

The motion, filed Oct. 29 by Lyn and Penny Laperriere says that although there has been no indication so far that the judge presiding over their case is biased against them or their lawyer, any reasonable person might question whether the judge could be impartial in light of the fallout from the investigation.
