WILMINGTON, N.C. — A North Carolina man has sued Smith & Nephew Inc. (NYSE:SNN), alleging that the company downplayed serious health risks and unusually high failure rates associated with its Journey Knee Replacement System.
In a complaint he filed Sept. 28 in federal court, Gary Knapp says he was required to undergo complete revision surgery approximately two years after a Journey system was implanted in his left knee. According to Knapp’s complaint, he began experiencing problems with the implant less than a year after his initial surgery in 2009.
