BAY CITY, Mich. — A federal judge has denied a motion to transfer and consolidate two hip implant cases pending in different divisions within the same district, saying they are not “companion cases” because they involve different plaintiffs, different products and different facts. Jones, et al. v. Wright Medical Technology, No. 11-14432 (E.D. Mich., N. Div.).

Judge Thomas L. Ludington of the Northern Division of the U.S. District for the Eastern District of Michigan said June 19 that defendant Wright Medical Technology “is correct that the respective cases will require more than substantially similar evidence to establish the respective claims …
