Article: "FDA Adverse Event Reports on Statin-Associated Rhabdomyolysis"
Summary: A review and profile of the number of cases of statin-associated rhabdomyolysis reported to the FDA between November 1997 and March 2000. The review revealed that of 871 reports of statin-associated cases of rhabdomyolysis, 35.8 percent were assoicated with simvastatin (Zocor), and 31.9 percent with cerivastatin (Baycol). The results led the researchers to conclude that both are implicated in a relatively higher number of adverse reports than the remaining statins; however, they urged caution in interpreting the data because of the various limitations of a …
