WASHINGTON, D.C. — Counsel for two plaintiffs who allege injuries caused by the failure of a Biomet metal-on-metal total hip replacement system have filed a motion requesting that an MDL docket be established in either California or New York for pretrial coordination of similar federal lawsuits. In Re: Biomet M2a Magnum Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. n/a (JPML).

The motion was filed June 27 with the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation and notes that the Biomet product is the latest metal-on-metal hip implant system to receive attention for its tendency to fail prematurely after being implanted in patients.
