ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - A New Jersey jury has awarded $25.2 million in compensatory damages to a man who claimed that his inflammatory bowel disease was caused by the acne drug Accutane. McCarrell v. Hoffmann LaRoche Inc., et al., No. L-1951-03 (N.J. Super. Ct., Atlantic Cty.).

After a five-week trial, the Atlantic County Superior Court jury found the drug's maker, Hoffman-La Roche Inc., liable for failing to warn Andrew McCarrell's physician that he could develop inflammatory bowel disease by taking Accutane. The Feb. 17 verdict was rendered on retrial after a New Jersey appellate court remanded the case.
