Federal Jury Hands Down Verdict in Children's Motrin Case

CHICAGO - An Illinois federal jury has unanimously determined that McNeil Consumer Healthcare negligently failed to warn consumers that its over-the-counter Children's Motrin could cause Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN), a severe skin reaction. Robinson v. McNeil Consumer Healthcare, No. 07-5603 (N.D. Ill.).
In a Sept. 1 verdict, the jury found that the drug, ingested by plaintiff Karen Robinson, is unreasonably dangerous. Robinson alleged that she contracted TEN after taking three doses of Children's Motrin in September 2005.
The jury also found, however, that Robinson was contributorily negligent for continuing to take the drug after the first symptoms appeared. Because the …
